San Francisco conlangers meetup
Hi all.Jul 23 19:00 1:00
Alex & I are getting married in Canada next week, and we'll be visiting the SF bay area July 18–27 as part of celebrations.
It's been a long time, so… want to have a conlanger meetup picnic on Sunday, July 23?
I'm inviting y'all because I believe you at least used to be in California or interested in a prior Bay Area meetup — though my info may be incorrect or out of date. And apologies for possible duplicate mail; I wasn't sure which ones are current.
If you know other conlangers nearby whom I may have omitted, please add them to this invite.
My proposed location (at least to start) is the Shakespeare Garden in SF Golden Gate Park, since it should be a nice picnic spot, wheelchair accessible, reasonably accessible by both car and public transit, and with plenty of green area & restaurants nearby to move to if wanted.
I'll bring my conlang flag to help with visual identification; for non visual, please DM me. s.ai/contact has my contact info.
Time is approximate. I figure noonish to start should work for most people, but we'll stay around in the starting area for a while in case someone arrives later. End time will be a matter of travel needs, interest in staying, etc.
We may go to a restaurant at some point, but I expect we'll stay outside while the weather is good. So, if you're coming, please try to bring some food and/or drink to share (preferably vegetarian & non alcoholic, vegan/allergens/etc labelled), disposable plates/cutlery/cups, and/or picnic blankets (if you have them).
Please RSVP yes/maybe/no via the calendar invite to help with logistics. If you'd like to meet up personally at a different time (instead or in addition), July 19–27, please email me & Alex.

Unua Libro, the first publication to describe Esperanto, published on this day in Russian in 1887.
Pres. John Quincy Adams responds to James Ruggles in a letter dated this date, 1827 (http://bit.ly/8Z1n9K - p. 178).
Ruggles is arguably the first person to develop a language which mixed the categorizing of knowledge typified by Wilkins and the streamlining of language epitomized by Esperanto. Johann Schleyer's Volapük, which most see as the first language of this type, would not appear until 1880. The Ohioan Ruggles beat Schleyer by over fifty years! However, Volapük would gain much wider notice than the Universal Language, and Ruggles would become one of the more obscure figures in conlanging.Jul 27
